The little book of feelings

Parenting is never easy.
We can only do our best.

As a parent of three boys, who like others have faced various struggles in their lives at a time when mental health is more recognised and valued, I created a picture book to help younger children open-up about their emotions.

The idea itself started life in simpler form as a mental health poster that my wife and I created to raise money for charity. Which then developed into a book. Similarly, we will donate all proceeds of this book to benefit children from all walks of life.

Although I have experience of psychotherapy, I am not an expert and this is not an official tool. But it is visual, practical and was conceived because not all the emotions that children need help with are the result of disturbing experiences.

Sometimes young children find it difficult to process positive feelings too - as well as negative reactions to circumstances or events. For example, young children often need help understanding feelings like love - not just negative feelings like anger.

All we can do as adults is monitor their lives and step in when we see signs that something is wrong – usually apparent when they start behaving out of character. I hope this book helps.
